The Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens (BKMC) is proud to host the 3rd edition of the Youth AgriChampions – a Peer2Peer workshop series on climate adaptation in agriculture. The initiative brings together ~15 youth grassroot voices from the world of smallholder farming and agricultural entrepreneurship in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda and Zambia, to share their on-the-ground experience with adapting their practices to climate change.

During the workshops – taking place in July 2024, the BKMC Youth AgriChampions will develop a youth demand paper to be elevated in high-level political fora by BKMC co-chair and 8th Secretary-General of the UN Ban Ki-moon. The thematic focus of the 2024 Demand Paper will be “locally-led adaptation for smallholder farming”.

In the past years, selected Youth AgriChampions joined the BKMC delegation on the ground at COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh and COP28 in Dubai to launch the Demand Paper and represent farmers around the world. To see the work of their 2023 BKMC Youth AgriChampions, visit their webpage here.

The Youth AgriChampions Workshop Series 2024 targets young smallholder farmers, agripreneurs, and youth working in the agricultural sector, aged between 18 to 35 from Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda and Zambia.

The BKMC is a quasi-international organization in Austria, under the leadership of the co-chairs Ban Ki-moon and Heinz Fischer. It is working to empower women and youth in the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Climate Agreement.

The workshops will take place on:

  • Workshop 1: 10 July 2024 (16:00 – 19:00 CEST)
  • Workshop 2: 17 July 2024 (16:00 – 19:00 CEST)
  • Workshop 3: 31 July 2024 (16:00 – 18:00 CEST)
  • 100% attendance is required.

Upon successful completion of the workshop series, participants will be awarded certificates signed by 8th UN SG Ban Ki-moon and they will become part of our ever growing BKMC Youth AgriChampions Alumni Network.
