The Bloomberg Philanthropies Data for Health Initiative Global Grants Program (GGP) is launching a new round of funding for projects that specifically focus on gender inequities in public health. This program aims to empower organizations working in low- and middle-income countries to improve the use and dissemination of sex and gender data for decision-making and policy change. This funding call supports projects that will improve the use and dissemination of sex and gender data for decision making and policy change.

Applications should focus on integrating gender equity in one of the following core areas: civil registration and vital statistics, data use for decision-making, and cancer registration.

Focus on Gender Equity in Data

The grant program specifically seeks proposals that integrate gender equity into three core areas:

  • Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS): Strengthening CRVS systems is crucial for capturing accurate data on births, deaths, marriages, and divorces, often disaggregated by sex. This information is essential for understanding and addressing gender disparities in health outcomes.
  • Data Use for Decision-Making: This program prioritizes projects that support the effective use of sex and gender data in policy and program development. This can include training policymakers and health professionals on how to analyze and interpret gender-disaggregated data, as well as building capacity for data-driven decision making.
  • Cancer Registration: Gender disparities exist in cancer incidence, treatment, and survival rates. Projects that improve cancer registration systems with a focus on capturing sex-disaggregated data will be strongly considered.
