The United States Government, as represented by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)/Nigeria invites concept notes that are focused on the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Activity. The Funding Opportunity Title is “Borno WASH Activity”.

Borno WASH Activity Purpose

The purpose of the Activity is to increase safe, sustainable, climate resilient and inclusive Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Services in communities, schools, and healthcare centers.

Approach

An integrated and participatory approach is envisioned to engage with the key stakeholders, especially the Borno state government and targeted beneficiaries. The key part of this approach is based on the co-creation to design, implement, and oversee innovative, impactful, and locally driven development with some degree of shared power and decision making.

Borno WASH Activity Goals and Objectives

The goal of the activity is to improve WASH access and address the sustainability challenges. The objectives are as follows:

  • Increase access to equitable, safe, climate resilient, and affordable drinking water services in the selected communities.
  • Strengthen WASH services in schools and healthcare centers with a focus on climate resilience, sustainability, gender responsiveness, and handicapped accessibility.
  • Institutional strengthening, capacity building and adopting appropriate service delivery model for sustainability with focus on post-completion operation and maintenance and private sector participation.

Geographic Focus

The activity will be implemented mainly in Maiduguri Local Government Area in Borno State.

Eligibility Criteria for Borno WASH Activity

Eligibility for this NOFO is restricted to local Nigerian organizations. Applications will not be accepted from any other types of organizations or individuals. Local entity means an individual, a corporation, a nonprofit organization, or another body of persons that:

  • Is legally organized under the laws of Nigeria;
  • Has as its principal place of business or operations in Nigeria;
  • Majority owned by individuals who are citizens or lawful permanent residents of Nigeria; and,
  • Managed by a governing body the majority of who are citizens or lawful permanent residents of Nigeria.
