    Applications are open for Llama 3.1 Impact Grants. AI at Meta is accepting applications from eligible organizations across the world with an idea for how to use Llama 3.1 to address social challenges in their communities.

    They believe AI has more potential than any other modern technology to increase human productivity, creativity, and quality of life and to accelerate economic growth while unlocking progress in medical and scientific research.

    Open source has multiple benefits: It helps ensure that more people around the world can access the opportunities that AI provides and deploys technology more equitably and safely across society. That’s why they continue to advocate for making open access to AI the industry standard.

    AI at Meta is excited to begin accepting applications for the Llama 3.1 Impact Grants, the next iteration of a larger portfolio of work they’ve invested in over the past year to support organizations as they pursue their ideas for how Llama 3.1 can be used to address social challenges in their communities.

    Llama 3.1 Impact Grants Areas of Focus

    Addresses one of the following topics:

    • Economic development: E.g., future of work; scaled business solutions; support for small businesses.
    • Science and innovation: E.g., climate, health, accessibility, agriculture; infrastructure support.
    • Public services: E.g., delivery of services; translation of government resources; solving relevant challenges for policymakers; resource allocation; migration.
    • Education and skills development: E.g., improve learning outcomes; retraining; lifelong learning.

    Funding Information

    The number of awards will vary based on the caliber of applications received as determined by Grantor and partner organizations using the criteria outlined in these Grant Terms above.

    • At least one (1) award per region will be granted to Organizations who have participated in a Regional Track Event in 2024, not to exceed $100,000 USD in total grant amount per region (“Regional Track Grant Funds”).
    • Grants for Open Call will also be awarded, not to exceed $500,000 USD per award (“Open Call Grant Funds”).
    • Organizations in the Regional Track are also eligible to receive awards in the Open Call.
    • Both Regional Track Grant Funds and Open Call Grant Funds are collectively referred to herein as “Grant Funds”.
    • Grant Funds will only be awarded to a valid Organizations (no Applicant or individual person will receive the Grant Funds grant).

    Eligibility Criteria for Llama 3.1 Impact Grants

    • This Grant Program is open to Organizations located in countries where local law does not prohibit their participation or the receipt of an award. Individuals and/or Organizations that are (i) the target of any trade sanctions or export control restrictions administered or enforced by the U.S., EU, United Nations, or UK; (ii) acting on behalf of anyone else who is the target of such trade sanctions or export control restrictions; or (iii) organized or located in Belarus, China (including Hong Kong), Russia, Ukraine, or any country or region that is the target of comprehensive economic or financial sanctions (which are the Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions of Ukraine, Cuba, North Korea, Iran, and Syria as of the date of these Grant Terms, but may be amended) are not eligible to participate.
    • Each Organization must adhere to the following requirements: i) must not be an individual, a sole proprietor, or sole-owner entity in the jurisdiction where it is formed, ii) be an entity that is duly formed prior to August 5, 2023, and in good standing under the laws of the jurisdiction in which the Organization was formed, and iii) have the legal right to participate in this Award Program and its participation will not violate any agreement or obligation between the Organization and any third-party, and (iv) must appoint and authorized one individual (the “Applicant”) to represent, act, and submit a Proposal on behalf of the Organization. The Applicant must be an employee of or affiliated with the Organization, and must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and the age of majority in the Applicant’s jurisdiction of residence.
    • Individuals who are employees, contractors, or personnel of the Grantor, or are an immediate family member of the aforementioned, are not eligible to participate in this Grant Program.

    Llama 3.1 Impact Grants Proposal Requirements:

    • Proposals must be written in English.
    • Organization must be in operation for at least 12 months (i.e., must be an entity that is duly formed Prior to August 5, 2023) and must be in good standing under the laws of the jurisdiction in which the Organization was formed.
    • Open to non-profit, academic institutions, research institutions, and for-profit entities.
    • Must demonstrate application of Llama 3.1
    • Must address a social impact issue area, such as:
      • Economic development (E.g., future of work; scaled business solutions; support for small businesses)
      • Science and innovation (E.g., climate, health, accessibility, agriculture)
      • Public services (E.g., delivery of services; translation of government resources)
      • Education and skills development (E.g., improve learning outcomes; retraining; lifelong learning)

    How To Apply

    • The Proposal must provide a solution to a social impact issue area using the Llama 3.1 technology in realistic/feasible ways that can clearly be applied, upholds responsible tactics, and can achieve maximum impact. Particular interest will be paid to applicants demonstrating the utility of Llama 3.1’s newest capabilities, lowering barriers for other developers to build with Llama, or addressing: economic development; science and innovation; public services; education and skills development.
