Applications are open for MEST AI Startup Program 2027. The fully-funded 12-month program is designed for ambitious founders across West and East Africa ready to build with those shaping what’s next. Over 7 months, you will form a team, validate a real AI business idea, build and deploy an MVP, and learn directly from world-class practitioners at Google, Meta, OpenAI, and beyond. The most promising ventures go further, entering a four-month incubation phase focused on scaling, acquiring real customers, and pitching for pre-seed investment.

The MEST AI Startup Program is an up to 12-month immersive experience designed to equip Africa’s most promising AI entrepreneurs with the skills to build and scale globally competitive AI startups.

MEST AI Startup Program Details

This 7-month, activity-based intensive training is designed for Africans with software development experience and entrepreneurial interest to explore and refine AI business ideas in teams. Participants test their ideas and build their startups in real-time while learning from world-class experts.

The curriculum is highly interactive, blending hands-on AI development, deep startup fundamentals, leadership training, and extensive customer engagement. Participants are encouraged to test out different ideas and potential teammates in the first two months. Final teams (2 – 4 members) and chosen AI solutions will be solidified by Month 3, ensuring each group works on a globally competitive AI product.

By the end of the program, participants will have:

Finalized their teams and validated an AI-driven business idea
Developed an MVP with global market potential
Built a robust business model using lean startup methodologies
Learned sustainable leadership, wellness, and team management practices

The MEST AI Startup Program Journey

January – July : Training

August: Graduation & Incubation Transition

September – December : Incubation

Eligibility Criteria

Education: Bachelor’s degree, diploma, or equivalent experience
Age: 21-35
Experience: Demonstrated software development experience, basic understanding of AI, strong interest in entrepreneurship
Mindset: Entrepreneurial, innovative, problem-solving, lifelong learner, ready for high-intensity startup environment
Citizenship: West or East African citizen. (Note: Nationals outside of our core recruitment countries of Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, and Kenya must be able, at their own cost, to travel to one of the core countries for in-person interviews, if shortlisted.)
Availability: Fully committed for up to 12 months (7-month training + 4-month incubation) plus desire to pursue entrepreneurship full-time afterward
