- Strengthening practical climate solutions through interdisciplinary engagement
Participants are selected not only for achievement but also for their potential to shape future climate leadership at national and global levels.
The programme is administered through the Jackson School of Global Affairs and is part of Yale’s broader commitment to global leadership education and climate engagement. It operates within the university’s wider equality and nondiscrimination framework, ensuring inclusive participation across regions and professions.
Yale Emerging Climate Leaders Fellowship Programme Structure
The fellowship combines in-person and remote learning components, requiring full participation throughout the programme duration from February to June 2027.
Selected fellows must commit to:
- Yale Orientation Week (1–5 February 2027) in person
- Six remote learning sessions held on Wednesdays at 9:00 AM Eastern Time
- Collaborative group project work between March and June 2027
- Closing week in Paris (14–18 June 2027), also in person
In-person participation is mandatory for both international residency components.
Funding and Programme Support
The fellowship provides full logistical support for selected participants during in-person sessions. This includes:
- Round-trip international airfare
- Accommodation during programme weeks
- Ground transfers
- Most meals during residential sessions
This support is intended to ensure accessibility for participants from diverse economic backgrounds across the Global South.
Eligibility Criteria for Yale Emerging Climate Leaders Fellowship
Applicants must meet several eligibility criteria to be considered for the 2027 fellowship cohort. The programme targets professionals who are in the early to mid-stage of their leadership trajectories.
Key requirements include:
- Between 5 and 10 years of professional experience
- Demonstrated accomplishments at regional, national, or international level
- Representation from the Global South, including Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America/Caribbean
- Fluency in English, with strong written and spoken communication skills
- Active professional engagement in climate-related fields
There is no formal age restriction; however, candidates must demonstrate leadership potential and ongoing career progression.
