    ACEP invites applications for the Africa Climate Academy, a unique and intensive training program designed for African policymakers, media professionals, civil society leaders, and academics who are committed to tackling climate change and advancing sustainable energy solutions.

    The Africa Climate Academy aims to challenge prevailing narratives on energy transition, climate action, and resource governance in Africa. Through engaging discussions, expert-led training, and interactive workshops, participants will gain practical insights and strategies to drive climate-responsive policies and initiatives. The Academy seeks to equip participants with the knowledge and tools to promote transparency, accountability, and innovative solutions in climate governance.

    The Academy will consist of a series of modules conducted throughout the week, each addressing specific aspects of climate change, energy transition, and Africa’s role in shaping a sustainable future. The interactive and immersive nature of the program aims to reshape participants’ thoughts, challenge assumptions, and cultivate a collective commitment to embracing renewable energy alternatives.

    Reshape Perceptions

    • Challenge assumptions about the future of oil by fostering a nuanced understanding of the risks associated with oil dependence and promoting the urgency of transitioning to sustainable energy sources.

    Build Knowledge

    • Provide comprehensive insights into the global energy landscape, focusing on Africa’s unique challenges and opportunities while equipping participants with the latest information on renewable energy technologies, policies, and best practices.

    Encourage Collaboration

    • Facilitate cross-sectoral networking and collaboration among policymakers, media representatives, and academia by creating a platform for exchanging ideas, experiences, and innovative solutions.

    Empower Advocacy

    • Equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to advocate for sustainable energy policies, empowering them to become champions for climate action and renewable energy transition.

    Program Funding

    The Academy is a fully funded program. Selected participants will receive comprehensive support, which includes:

    • Course Fees: Full coverage of tuition and all course-related materials.
    • Travel Expenses: Round-trip airfare for non-Ghanaians. Ground transportation to and from the program venue for all participants, including Ghanaians.
    • Accommodation: Comfortable lodging for the entire duration of the one-week program.
    • Meals: All meals provided, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner, throughout the program.

    This comprehensive funding ensures that participants can focus entirely on their learning and engagement without financial concerns.

    Eligibility Criteria for Africa Climate Academy

    To be eligible for the Africa Climate Academy, applicants must meet the following criteria:

    1. Be an African residing in Africa
    2. Hold a position as a policymaker, media professional, civil society leader, or academic with a demonstrated interest in climate change and energy-related issues.
    3. Have at least three years of work experience in their respective field, with a proven commitment to addressing the risks of oil dependence and promoting sustainable energy solutions.
    4. Demonstrate a strong interest in exploring sustainable energy alternatives and their potential to reduce fossil fuel dependency across Africa.
    5. Be fully available to participate in the one-week program, including all sessions and activities.
    6. Possess a strong command of English, as the program will be conducted in English.

    The program is open to professionals from all African countries, including:

    1. Policymakers: Government officials involved in energy, environment, and economic planning.
    2. Media Professionals: Journalists and editors covering energy, environment, and climate issues.
    3. Civil Society Leaders: Advocates and activists driving climate action and sustainable development.
    4. Academics: Researchers and educators focusing on climate change, energy policy, and sustainability.

    Selection Criteria for Africa Climate Academy

    Participants will be selected based on the following criteria:

    1. Professional Background: Demonstrate experience in your field (e.g., policymaking, media, civil society, academia) and the ability to bring diverse and insightful perspectives to the program.
    2. Interest and Motivation: Clearly express in your statement of purpose how your goals align with the Academy’s mission of transforming the dialogue on climate change, energy transition, and Africa’s sustainable future.
    3. Potential Impact: Show potential to apply the knowledge and skills gained from the program to create meaningful and lasting change in your field, particularly in promoting sustainable energy solutions in Africa.

    Course Fees

    1. Cost: Fully funded for all selected participants.
    2. Covers: Tuition, learning materials, travel expenses, accommodation, and meals.
