Applications are open for AGRA RE-GAIN Programme: Building Resilience through Food Loss Reduction in Africa. AGRA invites implementing partners/organisations in each of the 7 countries for components 1, which is about demand creation and facilitating adoption of food loss reduction solutions, to work with AGRA in the implementation of the RE-GAIN Programme.

The RE-GAIN programme goal is “to build smallholder climate resilience and adaptive capacity by promoting the wide scale adoption of food loss reduction solutions (FL-RS) in the seven participating countries”. The impacts of climate change have increased over the past decades in Africa, manifesting in more frequent, intense, and prolonged extreme weather events, such as floods, droughts, heatwaves, pest outbreaks, landslides, desertification, and sandstorms.

The programme will operate over five years in seven African countries: Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Kenya,
Malawi, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania and Zambia.

    AGRA RE-GAIN Programme Workstreams

This component is relevant for all types of FL-RS. The service providers can therefore express interest for 3 different workstreams:

    • Awareness raising and capacity building on climate change and climate smart harvest and post-harvest practices (non-physical solutions)
    • Creating demand through awareness creation and demonstration of hermetic technology, tarpaulins and on farm storage to enhance adoption by smallholder farmers
    • Market linkages for premium quality smallholder produce

    Period of Performance

    • The overall period for implementation of the programme is estimated to be a maximum of 48 months, spanning from 2025 to 2030, with grant funding issued on an annual basis, in instalments, as per the performance terms and conditions. Also provided is a list of indicative activities that must be included in the implementation of the programme.

Eligibility Criteria for AGRA RE-GAIN Programme

For component 1, the applicants include, but are not limited to:

    • NGOs, community-based organizations, last-mile agent developers, networks of extension services providers
    • Market facilitators who link (good quality) smallholder produce to premium markets
    • Offtake companies active in the target value chains, seeking for premium produce sourced from small scale producers
    • These applicants can submit the EOIs as individual organisations for the whole or parts of the component or they choose to partner with other technical service providers with whom they can design and implement the catalytic programme under RE-GAIN.
