2022: Tough Year for Nigeria’s Agriculture Sector – Governors’ Forum

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has said despite 2022 being a tough year for the agriculture sector, it still contributed 23 per cent to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the third quarter (Q3) of the year.

The NGF noted that excessive rainfall and flooding in 2022 further worsened the challenges facing Nigerian farmers. The forum stated this in a statement titled, ‘Nigerian Agriculture In 2022: The Ups And Downs,’ signed by the senior agricultural adviser to the NGF, Prof Abba Gambo, on Tuesday.

NCAM Urges Farmers to Boost Productivity Through Technology

In a bid to enhance farmer productivity, the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation (NCAM), has urged smallholder farmers to embrace new technologies at the disposal of the centre.

The Acting Executive Director of the centre, Dr AbdulGafar Rasheed-Kamal, made the call, while briefing journalists on Monday. He said that the centre had infact commenced the production of tractors and other farm implements for smallholder farmers. (more…)

Agric Development: FMARD Seeks More Collaboration with Ondo State Govt

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) has urged the Ondo State Government to foster partnership synergy with the Federal Government to improve the agricultural sector in the state.

This call was made by the FMARD State Coordinator, Mr Tony Otuonye, during a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Olayato Aribo, on Wednesday in Akure.

He disclosed that there would be a lot of gains for the state government if they maintained a symbiotic relationship with FMARD.
