    The Empowering Youth Civil Society to Build Stronger Communities in Nigeria is a project aimed at strengthening the capacity of young people and youth civil society organisations to be meaningfully engaged in the implementation of Nigeria’s National Adaptation Plan (NAP) and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

    This project aims to empower and strengthen young participation in climate action and sustainability activities across states in Nigeria.

    They invite interested youth civil societies to apply for this open call application. Your responses will help us identify and support the needs, experiences, and potential contributions of young leaders and CSOs committed to advancing Nigeria’s climate goals.

    Empowering Youth Civil Society Project Objectives

    • To build the capacity of selected youth CSOs in Nigeria to understand the NAP and NDCs.
    • To equip youth CSOs and young people with advocacy and communication skills to effectively raise awareness about NAP and NDCs.
    • To foster meaningful engagement between youth CSOs and government authorities for NAP and NDC implementation.
    • To encourage youth-led climate action projects aligned with the NAP and NDC goals of Nigeria.

    Empowering Youth Civil Society Project Benefits

    The project offers capacity-building workshops, community engagement activities, an online resource hub, and seed funding for climate action projects.

    • Build Capacity: Through specialised workshops and training sessions, youth CSOs will learn how to support and implement NAP and NDCs.
    • Foster Engagement: Promote meaningful dialogues between youth and government authorities, ensuring young voices are heard in policy discussions.
    • Raise Awareness: Mobilise young people and their communities to understand and act on climate issues.
    • Support Innovation: Provide seed funding for youth-led climate action projects to drive local solutions.

    Eligilibility Criteria

    This project is open for:

    • Youth-led civil society organisations (CSOs) based in Delta, Ondo, Enugu, Kaduna, or Nasarawa state, working with young people and focusing on climate action.
    • Applicants must be youth-led or youth-serving, work with young people aged 18-35, be registered with a bank account, and must commit to the project from July to December 2024.
    • Applications will be evaluated based on the organisation’s alignment with project goals, previous work in climate action, community engagement, capacity-building experience, and inclusion of marginalised groups.
