Global Prize for Innovation in Water Desalination (GPID), is an initiative aimed to recognize and reward those making significant contributions to the field of water desalination and inspire others to join us in our mission to find sustainable water solutions. They believe that water desalination has the potential to play a crucial role in solving the global water crisis and are committed to supporting and promoting research and development in this area. The GPID wants to advance the technologies and practices of water desalination to address global water scarcity and improve the lives of people around the world.

Global Prize for Innovation in Desalination Funding Details

The GPID will award a total of 12 prizes across 6 categories in two TRL clusters (TRL 1-3 & TRL 4-7), including 2 Grand Prizes and 10 Impact Medals. Each Grand Prize is valued at $100,000, while each Impact Medal is valued at $50,000.

Other Benefits

Beyond monetary Prizes, GPID awardees will have the chance to gain entry into an accelerator program and access to piloting facilities provided by SWA and other partners, amplifying the impact of their innovations.

Eligibility Criteria for Global Prize for Innovation in Desalination

This program is open for:

Researchers /research groups
start-ups / companies

Universities

Selection Criteria

Applicants can be individuals, teams, or legal entities.
The application period will start on 1 February 2024 and end on 31 August 2024.
Applicants should apply for one of the two Sections of the GPID (i.e., the “Discovery Award” Section for innovation with a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) ranging from 1 to 3, or the “Breakthrough Award” Section for innovation with a TRL ranging from 4 to 7, in accordance with the TRL level that applicants attribute to their innovation).
Once applications are collected through the GPID website, the GPID team will check that applicants have provided all relevant information/documents and, if applicable, interact with applicants to complete the submission phase.
