    Applications are open for FOODITY Programme 2024. FOODITY is inviting SMEs/startups, social innovation actors, researchers, and training organizations to apply for its Open Call #2. The call will support six breakthrough digital solutions for food and nutrition that are about to reach the marketplace. Those solutions will give citizens complete control over their personal data, allowing them to make better nutritional choices that are more environmentally friendly and healthier, ultimately leading to more sustainable food systems.

    The program intends to address food system challenges by leveraging creative solutions to accomplish the core targets of the EU’s Food 2030 research and innovation strategy. These include food systems that promote a healthy world, nutrition for sustainable and healthy diets, circularity and resource efficiency, as well as fostering innovation and community empowerment.

    Our second open call will accept submissions to develop solutions focusing on one of the themes or an open challenge:

    • Shopping Experiences
    • Education
    • Services
    • Open Challenge

    What to consider before submitting your application:

    • The open call accepts proposals for solutions with a minimum entry level of 4 – 6 TRL and currently up to TRL 7 (preferred but not mandatory)
    • All pilots must focus on social innovation and include citizen engagement activities in their work plan.

    FOODITY Programme Benefit

    • Financial support up to €187.500 per beneficiary.
    • Access to technology and technical support to develop their solutions.
    • Expert mentoring advice on business development: from marketing and sales to financing, innovation strategy or sustainability.
    • Group coaching including mutual exchange between the open call beneficiaries.
    • Technical training on relevant technical, business, and legal issues.

    Eligibility Criteria

    • They are looking for organisations with both technical and social innovation expertise, as well as citizen engagement knowledge.
    • Applicants can submit proposals led by an SME/startup and partner with other 2 or 3 entities that are a mix of for-profit and non-profit organisations.
    • Small or Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) and startups developing solutions for data-driven innovation in personalised nutrition, sustainable food systems and shopping experiences.
    • Social innovation actors (SIAs) providing new practices aiming at citizen empowerment and proposing concrete actions for data sovereignty, as well as associations representing consumers’ interest in health and nutrition.
    • Research and Technology Organisations (RTOs) and universities working on advancing the state-of-the-art and addressing the challenges around data-driven innovation for health and nutrition, as well as mechanisms to preserve citizens’ sovereignty over their personal data in health and nutrition solutions.
    • Training organisations oriented to the food industry, such as culinary or nutrition schools, and interested in teaching and experimenting with the power of data for innovation and competitiveness in food production and diet planning.
    • In addition, applicants must be based in an EU or Horizon Europe-associated country.
