Applications are open for ACET Young Leaders in Research (YLR) 2026. The Young Leaders in Research (YLR) Grant is a 12-month grant. It supports early-career African researchers in economics and related fields to lead policy-relevant, context-driven research that advances Africa’s transformation agenda. Young Researchers receive funding, mentorship, visibility, and professional development support to elevate their research and influence policymaking on the continent.
The African Center for Economic Transformation (ACET) is a Pan-African economic policy institute supporting Africa’s long-term growth through transformation. We produce research, offer policy advice, and convene key stakeholders so that African countries are better positioned for innovative, inclusive, and sustainable development that improves lives.

ACET Young Leaders in Research (YLR) Benefits
The Young Leaders in Research (YLR) Program by the African Center for Economic Transformation (ACET) offers much more than just funding. It is designed to help young African researchers build their careers, strengthen their research capacity, and increase their influence on policy and development issues across Africa.
- Research Grant of Up to USD $15,000
- Successful applicants can receive up to $15,000 to cover Data collection and analysis, Research materials. Travel expenses, Publication costs, and Living expenses/stipend (up to 20% of the grant budget)
- One-on-One Mentorship
- Participants are paired with experienced African economists, researchers, and policy advisors
- Professional Development
- The program helps researchers develop Policy research skills, Analytical and writing skills, Leadership abilities and Research communication and presentation skills
- Publication Opportunities
- Participants may have their research Published in the ACET Young Leaders in Research Series and shared with policymakers and development practitioners
- Increased Visibility and Recognition
- Researchers gain exposure through ACET-hosted conferences and events.
- Networking and Peer Learning
- Participants join a community of emerging African researchers
Eligibility Criteria
- Early-career researchers 35 years old and under with a background in economics or a related field, who are African Nationals or hold permanent residency in African countries
